So. What do a couple of dozen Ladies of a Certain Age do on a dismal, damp Saturday in March?
A little knitting perhaps?
Or a gentle stroll in the park with the grandchildren?
Maybe some baking for the WI?
No. This is Stithians Ladies Choir and on Saturday 11th March they set off early and full of resolve to catch a coach to go to Newlyn.
The objective of their trip was to present the Penlee Lifeboat Station Appeal with a cheque for £1000, the magnificent sum which was raised at the Carol Service ( report here ) commemorating the loss of the Solomon Browne in the Penlee lifeboat disaster of 1981. The ladies were shown around the existing station which is now cramped and inadequate and then they were guided round the RNLB Ivan Ellen by coxswain Patch Harvey. Penlee press officer Elaine Trethowan was both informative and entertaining and the ladies left with a much clearer understanding of the workings of this remarkable institution and a renewed desire to contribute whenever and wherever possible.
Anyone wishing to add to the amount raised so far can do so HERE
