It’s all Brian’s fault!

Some concerts are just not meant to be.

The Ladies were really looking forward to sharing an evening of music with Marazion Apollo Male Voice Choir and St Stythians Band but the omens were not good when Ophelia blew down and thoroughly shredded the advertising banner attached to All Saints Church. Now that Storm Brian is well and truly heading towards us the choir has decided to take the safe course and cancel the concert sceduled for Saturday 21st October.

Such a decision is not taken lightly and we would like to thank all the good people involved for their understanding. We look forward to rescheduling the event and raising money to support The Cove Macmillan Support Centre.

Friends supporting Friends

Once again Stithians Ladies Choir has raised a significant sum for charity, this time for Penhaligon’s Friends, a local charity which helps and supports children and young people at a time of bereavement. The fund raising concert was held on a balmy evening in July when the Trengilly Singers and the Beatroots generously shared their talents.

President Thelma and deputy treasurer Connie present a Big Cheque to Ike Bearcroft.

At a recent practice night we were joined by Mike Bearcroft from Penhaligon’s Friends who was delighted to receive our cheque.

The Ladies in Action!

It is not often that the choir ladies get the chance to see and hear themselves in action. Here is a video taken from the balcony at Truro School Chapel in July when we presented a concert together with the Trengilly Singers and The Beatroots to support the work of Penhaligon’s Friends.

We had great fun in the final song which was “Together” with The Beatroots. Enjoy!

It was wonderful concert and at our next practice we will be joined by a representative of Penhaligon’s Friends and we will present them with a cheque for the funds raised.

A Stithians triple success

CHARITY CONCERT IN STITHIANS

image courtesy of St Stythians MVC facebook

The village of Stithians is remarkable in several ways – a lovely place to live with many amenities including a school, shops, pub, churches and a thriving community hall. But it is rare to find a village so well served with musical activities, in particular a Male Voice Choir, now celebrating 70 years, a silver band celebrating 90 years and our own Stithians Ladies Choir a mere 50 years old!

On Saturday 30th September the men’s choir hosted a lovely charity concert in the Methodist Church at Stithians involving all three musical groups and a magnificent £950 was raised to support the work of Motor Neurone Disease ( Cornwall ) With Adrian Wilton as compère and a wonderful audience the poor weather was forgotten and everyone had a thorough good time and we felt privileged to be part of such an uplifting evening.

Our next concert

Well, it’s September and Stithians Ladies Choir is back after the summer break and raring to go on the next set of concerts. We are preparing some fabulous songs and really looking forward to sharing our music with many other like-minded people. In the lead up to Christmas (not long now!) we will be working with Marzion Apollo MVC and The Saxy Maids for the first time and also our long standing friends St Stythians MVC, St Stythians Band and the Glee Singers. We are performing in some lovely venues including Budock church and All Saints, Falmouth as well as crossing the border to Devon. So lots for everyone to look forward to – keep an eye on our Concerts and Events page for details.

What a fabulous evening!

Stithians Ladies Choir in action again …

this time hosting a concert to support the work of Penhaligon’s Friends

Saturday 22nd July saw the Ladies, together with their special guests the Trengilly Singers and The Beatroots, singing their hearts out in the wonderful surroundings of Truro School Chapel. This was undoubtedly the most musically varied concert they have hosted as the genres were wonderfully diverse ( madrigals to beatbox ) and the associated musical time span was enormous( 16th to 21st centuries ) There really was something to appeal to all tastes and the audience loved it – so did the performers.

THE TRENGILLY SINGERS conductor Melanie Uren

Compère Janette Eathorne kept everyone on their toes with witty links and Cornish anecdotes and Maestro Rico Gerber accompanied both Trengilly and Stithians from the grand piano which was facing away from both conductors ( we told you he was wonderful! ) There were refreshments in the interval with so much left over that they were polished off afterwards, a large table was replete with raffle prizes and everyone there was most generous.

The Beatroots outside Truro School chapel

During the evening a representative from Penhaligon’s Friends, a local charity which helps and supports children at a time of bereavement, told us about the importance of their work and how it all depends on voluntary contributions. We don’t yet know how much our efforts raised but we will let you know as soon as we can and you can rest assured that a large cheque will be winging its way in their direction very soon.

“We are a Cornish charity supporting bereaved children, young people, parents and carers throughout the county. We offer children and young people the chance to meet others and share their experiences, as well as practical resources for children and parents”

Stithians Ladies Choir would like to thank all the fabulous musicians who helped with this concert and gave so generously of their time, expertise and cash! Thanks also to Truro School for the use of their wonderful facilities and their excellent team of people who helped us.

A concert for Hospice Care

LOSTWITHIEL  JULY 1st  2017

We took part in a lovely summer concert at St Bartholomew’s, Lostwithiel to raise funds for Cornwall Hospice Care. The weather was clement, the audience numerous and enthusiastic and the musical programme, which we shared with Lostwithiel Town Band, interesting and varied. The Ladies sang their hearts out and sounded magnificent in the warm acoustic of the church. They were a perfect musical foil for the rousing tones of the band and mutual admiration was expressed during the interval when they shared some refreshments. Our President Thelma gave one of her humourous monologues with the help of the unflappable Rico, the compère Tamsin Thomas kept the pace flowing and everyone sang Trelawney at the end – a really good evening’s entertainment for a really worthy cause. The concert organisers tell us that over £800 was raised and we were delighted to be part of this sterling effort by so many.

Here are some mementos of a really happy occasion
